The problem is that what you want, as @Nail1684 pointed out, is not consistent with how the web vault works, today.
I, for one, prefer it the way it is now: If I just want to view an item (which is, for me, most of the times) I don’t want it to open in edit mode (to prevent accidentally modifying something I didn’t want to).
And, most important for me, in edit mode you don’t get the copy button on any item field and you can’t see the TOTP code.
OTOH, I like (and voted for) @Nail1684’s feature request.
